1 Minute Typing Test
Take a free 60-second typing test to measure your words per minute and accuracy. The timer starts with your first character, so you can get comfortable before you begin.
Lowercase everyday words, without punctuation. Compare results using the same setting.
Up to 5,000 characters. Text stays in this page and is cleared on reload. Avoid sensitive information. Line breaks and repeated spaces become single spaces; hidden formatting controls are removed.

How are my results calculated?
Typing speed (WPM)
A word is a standard unit of five characters. Letters, punctuation, and spaces all count. Only characters that correctly match the expected text when the test ends contribute to your speed.
WPM = correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes spent typing. For example, 250 correct characters in 60 seconds gives you 50 WPM. Correcting a mistake lets that character count toward your speed.
Accuracy
Accuracy is the percentage of character entries that were correct when you typed them. Corrected mistakes still count as attempts; pressing Backspace does not.
Accuracy = correct entries ÷ all entries × 100. If you type nine characters correctly and one incorrectly, then delete the mistake and type the correct character, you have 10 correct entries out of 11 attempts: 91% accuracy after rounding. Your final text can be perfect while your accuracy is below 100%.
Comparing your progress
Characters per minute (CPM) counts correct displayed characters per minute; WPM divides this by five. Combined accents and emoji count as single displayed characters. Your-text results are personal practice and cannot be compared fairly with standard passages or other languages.
Compare results for the same text mode and duration. Sentences add capitals and punctuation, and a short burst differs from maintaining your pace for a full minute. Look at speed and accuracy together.
Prefer a shorter round? The main typing speed test also offers 15- and 30-second tests.
Make the most of your one-minute test
A full minute gives you time to settle into a rhythm and practise keeping your pace steady. It asks you to maintain attention beyond a short burst. Your result describes this attempt, with this passage and mode; it is not a fixed measure of your ability.
How to take the test
- Choose Common words, Natural text, or Your text. For a full-minute round, use one of the built-in modes.
- Type the displayed text, including spaces. In Natural text, match capital letters and punctuation too. Your first character starts the 60-second countdown.
- Keep typing until the timer ends. You can use Backspace to correct mistakes. Review your speed, accuracy, and final text, then try again.
Read your 60-second result
WPM uses a standard word of five correctly matched characters, including spaces. At exactly 60 seconds, 250 correct characters gives 50 WPM. Accuracy also counts mistakes you corrected, so a clean final passage can still have an accuracy score below 100%.
To track progress, compare attempts with the same duration and text mode. Common words use lowercase words without punctuation; Natural text includes capital letters and punctuation, so the two modes place different demands on your typing.
Turn on Include numbers to mix numbers into Common words, or dates, quantities, and prices into Natural text. Leave it off for words-only practice and compare results using the same setting. Your text is not changed by this option.
Does every attempt last a full minute?
The time limit is 60 seconds. A short custom passage can finish sooner if you type all of it; its score uses the actual elapsed time. Choose a built-in mode when you want to practise for the whole minute. The results show both the selected duration and the time spent typing.
Can I pause, or get a certified score?
The timer keeps running if you stop typing or leave the page. Restart if you are interrupted. This is a personal practice test, not a supervised exam or an accredited certificate.
