5 Minute Typing Test
Try a free five minute keyboarding test for sustained typing practice. Keep going for 300 seconds and review your words per minute and accuracy. Your first character starts the timer; no sign-up is needed.
Lowercase everyday words, without punctuation. Compare results using the same setting.
Up to 5,000 characters. Text stays in this page and is cleared on reload. Avoid sensitive information. Line breaks and repeated spaces become single spaces; hidden formatting controls are removed.

How are my results calculated?
Typing speed (WPM)
A word is a standard unit of five characters. Letters, punctuation, and spaces all count. Only characters that correctly match the expected text when the test ends contribute to your speed.
WPM = correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes spent typing. For example, 250 correct characters in 60 seconds gives you 50 WPM. Correcting a mistake lets that character count toward your speed.
Accuracy
Accuracy is the percentage of character entries that were correct when you typed them. Corrected mistakes still count as attempts; pressing Backspace does not.
Accuracy = correct entries ÷ all entries × 100. If you type nine characters correctly and one incorrectly, then delete the mistake and type the correct character, you have 10 correct entries out of 11 attempts: 91% accuracy after rounding. Your final text can be perfect while your accuracy is below 100%.
Comparing your progress
Characters per minute (CPM) counts correct displayed characters per minute; WPM divides this by five. Combined accents and emoji count as single displayed characters. Your-text results are personal practice and cannot be compared fairly with standard passages or other languages.
Compare results for the same text mode and duration. Sentences add capitals and punctuation, and a short burst differs from maintaining your pace for a full minute. Look at speed and accuracy together.
Practise concentration over a five-minute session
A five minute typing test gives you a longer stretch of continuous keyboarding. Use it to practise keeping your attention on the text and maintaining accuracy when the initial burst of energy has passed. It is a longer practice session, not a prediction of how fast you will type throughout a workday.
Set up before the clock starts
Set aside five uninterrupted minutes, adjust your seating and keyboard to feel comfortable, and pick a mode. Common words focus on lowercase words; Natural text adds sentence punctuation and capitals. Your text lets you bring a passage of your own, which may be easier or harder than the built-in text.
You can turn on Include numbers for more varied built-in practice. Common words mix in numbers; Natural text includes details such as dates, quantities, and prices. The setting stays locked during the round, is recorded in your result, and does not change Your text. Use the same setting when comparing five-minute scores.
Keep the whole round manageable
- Begin at a pace you can sustain. Chasing a high opening WPM can make it harder to maintain accuracy later.
- Keep your hands relaxed and make corrections when needed. Both typing and correction time are part of the five-minute result.
- Stop and rest if typing feels uncomfortable. You can restart later; there is no need to push through discomfort to complete a practice score.
Built-in modes supply more text locally as you type, so a fast typist can continue for all 300 seconds. With Your text, finishing the passage ends the test early. Choose a built-in mode for a full-length round.
Read speed and accuracy together
For a complete five-minute round, WPM is correctly matched characters divided by 25: five characters per standard word, over five minutes. For example, 1,250 correct characters gives 50 WPM. If custom text finishes early, the score uses the actual elapsed time instead.
Accuracy counts character-entry attempts, including mistakes that you later correct. Use the final typing review to spot remaining errors, then compare future five-minute attempts in the same mode. A longer test is a different task from a one-minute burst; do not treat the two scores as interchangeable.
Can this prepare me for a job typing test?
It can provide timed practice if you need to get used to five minutes of keyboarding. An employer may use different passages, correction rules, or scoring, so check their actual requirements. This page does not issue an accredited certificate or guarantee that an employer will accept the score.
Can I pause or save the session?
The timer continues while you stop typing or leave the page; there is no pause. Restart after an interruption. Reloading clears the attempt and any custom passage. If five minutes is too long for today's practice, choose a shorter round above or return to the main typing speed test.
